Memory boxes cover a range of topics including seaside and childhood. They contain a variety of objects, pictures and information to accompany a particular theme. They can be ordered online or by a phone call to any Sefton Library. The boxes are stored at Crosby library but can be delivered to the library of the person’s choice. One word of warning the boxes are quite large so probably need collecting by car. We are working on some smaller memory bags, which should be available soon – these will be much more portable, and better for individuals.

Regarding additional services for people living with dementia and their carers

We have The Reading Well book lists, with one dedicated to dementia. The booklist available via this link

All the Reading Well titles have a longer loan period than standard and don’t  generate fines. This is in recognition that people accessing these books will have busy/stressful lives and might not be able to return them in a timely manner.

We also have our Lost Voices project. This is where we can arrange for a volunteer to visit a person to record their memories. We will then supply a copy of the recoding, which they can share with family and friends. The idea is that as memories fade the recording will be able to trigger re-collections and stimulate conversations. More info via this link

Finally we have the Home Library Service. If anyone in the household is struggling to get to the library we can deliver books to the home on a monthly basis. We also have audio books and quick reads, for those who find it difficult to concentrate on a full novel.
